Blown Launch on Kagel!

Post by JD » Sat Mar 16, 2019 1:36 pm

Don't let it happen to you and please keep an eye on each other.
Why?
Because Sunday is looking like an epic day with climbs above 9K and nil wind on the ramp.
So?
Every year all around the world there are a plethora of blown launches by rusty pilots who haven't flown much in the previous 4-6 months and their first day back is often epic spring conditions with powerful lift. This is what I'm seeing for Sunday along with a chance of zero wind on the ramp. This often results in a combination of gliders that get turtled or gliders that ground loop during nose-high and weak launch runs only to have a thermal come up one side of the ramp and twirl them around. Please be mindful of of these things and every other thing you can think of that I left out.
Cheers,
JD

All pilots used good judgement by either waiting for a safe launch cycle or broke their gliders down and drove back down.
There will always be another opportunity.
