Chasing Clouds in Churning Air 2019.04.09

Lots of fun and difficulty at Crestline earlier this week. Live sound with little talking but good graphics. A good video to give newcomers an honest and no bullshit look at what it's like to have solid H3 skills*. https://youtu.be/_jct18kl838 * I don't claim to be anything beyond an average recreat...

Low Save Thanks to a Red-Tail

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IU1uqDDVAl4 at 4:00
After getting trashed and flushed then finally setting up to land at AJX, a red-tail flashed across my view at ~275' AGL as I was preparing to land. So I followed it for a few turns and was able to dig back out for a fun flight.

Video Review of Sport 3 170 in Weak Lift

~191# hook-in weight. https://youtu.be/gAjC4GdOxTA
I plan on buying this glider to replace my Falcon 4 194 for easy floating.
If anyone needs great Falcon 4 195 that flies terrific let me know.

Sunday was good,
Any good flights, anybody, please?
Lots of good flights. Kendall flew to Wilson and back. I think Chippy and Jim flew to East Lukens and back.
Highest was ~10,900'. I got to 9,200' and landed safely at Oro Vista and Big T Rd. on my old Sport 2 155.

Re: Blown Launch on Kagel!

All pilots used good judgement by either waiting for a safe launch cycle or broke their gliders down and drove back down.
There will always be another opportunity.

Blown Launch on Kagel!

Don't let it happen to you and please keep an eye on each other. Why? Because Sunday is looking like an epic day with climbs above 9K and nil wind on the ramp. So? Every year all around the world there are a plethora of blown launches by rusty pilots who haven't flown much in the previous 4-6 months...

Re: Two Dead at Torrey - Paragliding Collision (March 9, 2019)

The names have been released ... LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) — The San Diego County Medical Examiner released the identities of the two men who died in yesterday's paragliding accident. Glenn Johnny Peter Bengtsson, Carlsbad (43) Raul Gonzalez Valerio, Laguna Hills (61) ... but not their USHPA ratings ...

Woody Valley Tenax Rope Slider Failure!

I know there are a number of Tenax harnesses in the club that use the tensioned rope slider instead of a steel rod for the suspension.
Here is an ass-puckering reminder to follow the inspection and maintenance procedures in the Tenax owners manuals.

Crash Landing On A Freeway With Style and Grace

Even though this is a Part 91 video and not Part 103, it is well worth watching for all pilots.

I know at least 3 pilots from our club who have launched unhooked. I did it myself in 1978 resulting in a dislocated left middle finger which healed up longer and meaner and ever. I know PG pilots who launched 'unbuckled' one of whom fell to his death while his 17-yo daughter was left adrift in his ...

I am not aware of any further information.

More like they one-undered your landing. Didn't mean to torpedo the topic. Is there a new sign-off co-branded w/ PADI?

Doug found me the actual video of your landing.

FYI - Dave Turner from http://sierraparagliding.com found Ken's glider and has the precise location recorded. I put Dave and Ken in touch with each other (hopefully) and the glider can soon be high and dry rather than submerged and damp.

An Interesting Flight on Monday

I opted to go to Crestline in order to really push the limits on my tuned-up Sport 3 155. It did not disappoint although the lift did.
